Since the 2024-25 school year, any Kansas district must accept applications from kids who don't live in it, cannot charge them tuition, and cannot screen them on grades or athletics. Almost nobody moving here knows this. Before you spend $187,000 more to cross State Line Road, read the catch — because there is a serious one, and it is that Blue Valley posted zero open middle-school seats this year.

Overland Park is served by four different school districts. Shawnee Mission School District covers fourteen cities and a big part of the city of Shawnee isn't one of them.
